Billiard Room Etiquette
Winning is not as important as good sportsmanship. Nobody likes to play with a sore loser or with someone who purposely tries to be distracting while others are making their shot.
You should always be respectful of your opponent and other players at nearby pool tables whether you are playing in a Billiard Tournament or just playing a friendly game of pool. It doesn't matter if you are playing at a friends house, a bar or a Billiard Room, you should use proper etiquette and follow the "house rules".
When playing Billiards, you should chalk your cue before every shot. You will have plenty of time to do this when it is your turn again. When your turn is over, you should not chalk your cue, stand near the table, fidget or do anything else that is distracting to your opponent. When you finish your turn, you should immediately sit down, be still and be quiet.
Make sure you respect those around you by lowering your voice. You would not want to be in the middle of a winning shot and have someone at the next pool table suddenly yell at the top of their lungs. Do not be inconsiderate to others by being excessively loud.
If you are playing pool at a place where there are children, please make sure to watch your language. Billiards can be a fun family activity. Be considerate of families who are just enjoying spending time together while they play billiards and keep your language clean.
The main thing to remember when you are playing pool, is to follow the "golden rule". "Doing unto others as you would have them do unto you", should always result in good Billiard Room Etiquette.
